BIOSCI ERC ACADEMY
BIOSCI ERC ACADEMY is a knowledge & mentoring platform for ERC applicants & ERC holders in life sciences. Our long-term goal is to strengthen support of promising researchers to apply for ERC grants and to increase the number of ERC holders working in České Budějovice. The research campus in České Budějovice is a centre of excellence with a strong tradition in biosciences focused on complex ecological, evolutionary & developmental aspects of LIFE. The research campus hosts three ERC holders (Doležel David, Novotný Vojtěch, Sam Kateřina) and four ERC-CZ holders (Hrček Jan, Lukeš Julius, Mozgová Iva, Panicucci Zíková Alena).

ERC Grants
1) ERC Starting Grants (StG) support excellent PI´s at the career stage at which they are starting their own independent research team or programme in any field of research. Applicant must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of his/her scientific proposal.
Who can apply? Junior researchers of any nationality who intend to conduct their research in any EU MS or an AC with 2–7 years of experience since completion of PhD; a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal.
Why to apply? It is a prestigious opportunity to establish and develop your own independent research laboratory and to realise your breakthrough, high-risk research ideas. You can get financial support up to 1.5 M EUR for 5 years, the grant can cover up to 100% of the total eligible costs. Additional 1.0 M EUR can be available to cover (i) eligible “start-up” costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an AC; (ii) the purchase of major equipment; (iii) access to large facilities.
2) ERC Consolidator Grants (CoG) support excellent PIs at the career stage at which they may still be consolidating their own independent research team or programme in any field of research. Applicant must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of his/her scientific proposal.
Who can apply? Junior researchers of any nationality who intend to conduct their research in any EU MS or an AC with 7–12 years of experience since completion of PhD; a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal.
Why to apply? It is a prestigious opportunity to consolidate and develop your own independent research laboratory and to realise your breakthrough, high-risk research ideas. You can get financial support up to 2.0 M EUR for 5 years, the grant can cover up to 100% of the total eligible costs. Additional 1.0 M EUR can be available to cover (i) eligible “start-up” costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an AC; (ii) the purchase of major equipment; (iii) access to large facilities.
3) ERC Advanced Grants (AdG) support excellent PIs at the career stage at which they are already established research leaders with a recognised track record of research achievements. Applicant must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of his/her scientific proposal.
Who can apply? Independent leading senior researchers from anywhere in the world who have a track-record of significant research achievements in the last 10 years.
Why to apply? It is a prestigious opportunity to develop your own independent research laboratory and to realise your breakthrough, high-risk research ideas. You can get financial support up to 2.5 M EUR for 5 years, the grant can cover up to 100% of the total eligible costs. Additional 1.0 M EUR can be available to cover (i) eligible “start-up” costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an AC; (ii) the purchase of major equipment; (iii) access to large facilities.
4) ERC Synergy Grants (SyG) bring together complementary skills, knowledge, and resources in new ways, in order to jointly address ambitious research problems. The aim is to promote substantial advances at the frontiers of knowledge, to cross-fertilize scientific fields, and to encourage new productive lines of enquiry and new methods and techniques, including unconventional approaches and investigations at the interface between established disciplines.
Who can apply? A group of 2–4 PIs of any age and career stage from anywhere in the world working together and bringing different skills and resources to tackle ambitious research problems. PIs must present an early achievement track record or a ten-year track record. One PI per research grant, except the corresponding PI, can be hosted or engaged by an institution outside of the EU or AC.
Why to apply? It is a prestigious opportunity to realise your large interdisciplinary, breakthrough, high-risk research project. You can get financial support up to 10 M EUR for 6 years, the grant can cover up to 100% of the total eligible costs. Addition 4 M EUR can be requested in the proposal in total to cover (i) eligible 'start-up' costs for PIs moving to the EU or an AC from elsewhere as a consequence of receiving an ERC grant; (ii) the purchase of major equipment; (iii) access to large facilities.
